The Department of Pediatrics at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans currently has an immediate opening for a full-time academic Pediatric Hematology Oncology/HSCT position. Appointment will be at the academic rank of Assistant Professor (non-tenure, clinical track). Must be BC/BE in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology and licensed to practice medicine in Louisiana by start date. A specific interest in stem cell transplantation is highly desirable. The successful candidate is expected to have strong clinical skills in HSCT/BMT experience, have an interest in research, and will participate in teaching of residents and fellows. The Division of Pediatric Hematology-Oncology is comprised of seven pediatric hematologists-oncologists. We are a full member of the Children’s Oncology Group as well as a COG-approved, FACT accredited hematopoietic stem cell transplant center. The Children’s Hospital Pediatric Hematology-Oncology unit consists of 18 state-of-the-art rooms dedicated to Hem/Onc/BMT. There are excellent facilities and infrastructure for clinical and basic science research available at Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center.
The Department of Pediatrics at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans is dedicated to excellence in patient care, mastery in teaching and continuous learning. The Department boasts approximately eighty faculty members representing all pediatric sub-specialties. Training programs include an annual medical school class of two hundred and approximately one hundred post-graduate trainees in categorical pediatrics, medicine-pediatrics, child neurology, combined pediatrics and emergency medicine and most pediatric sub-specialty fellowship areas. Faculty members are expected to contribute to the advancement of scholarly or educational activities within the Department. There are abundant opportunities for educational, clinical, translational, and quality and outcomes research initiatives across the health sciences center.
Children’s Hospital is Louisiana’s only free standing children’s hospital. The 247 bed tertiary care teaching and clinical care complex is located in the heart of New Orleans. Children’s is in the beginning stages of a 5 year and $225 million expansion project.
