The Department of Pediatrics at Maine Medical Center is seeking a well-qualified pediatric physician leader to serve as Chair of Pediatrics.
The Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and the Physician Leader of the Children’s Service Line functions as the principal academic, clinical and administrative leader for the Department of Pediatrics and its associated Maine Medical Center and health system service lines. He/she is fully accountable for the development and maintenance of efficient, effective clinical and academic operations as well as the development and promotion of collaborative working relationships among clinicians and administrators at all levels within the department and the service lines.
The Department of Pediatrics is a major teaching resource for Maine Medical Center, with Pediatric and Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency training programs. The department offers inpatient and outpatient pediatric experiences for residents and medical students from Tufts University-Maine Medical Center School of Medicine program.
The Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (BBCH), a 96-bed hospital within Maine Medical Center, is the tertiary medical center for children serving the state of Maine and southern and eastern New Hampshire. The BBCH includes 31 Level III NICU beds, 20 Level II Continuing Care Nursery beds and 8 PICU beds. The Children’s Hospital medical staff represents all the pediatric medical and surgical subspecialties providing comprehensive services for children, including trauma care, surgery for congenital heart disease and renal transplantation. The Divisions of Critical Care and Neonatology support and supervise 24/7 pediatric and neonatal transport teams.
Maine Medical Center (MMC) has 637 beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and Level 1 Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and integration with Tufts University School of Medicine. MMC is a member of MaineHealth, one of the largest healthcare systems in Maine and is ranked among the top 100 integrated delivery systems in the country.
The successful candidate will be a board certified pediatrician with at least seven years of progressive clinical leadership experience in a complex organization, possessing strong leadership skills with a proven ability to cultivate collaboration and build consensus among diverse clinical and administrative stakeholders and across organizational boundaries. The selected candidate must also possess knowledge of healthcare finance, hospital administration and strategic planning.
