Vanderbilt University Medical Center's Department of Emergency Medicine is a national leader in emergency care research. This term position will provide assistance with the conduct of emergency care health services research for the Emergency Care Health Services Research Data Coordinating Center within the Department of Emergency Medicine. The specific tasks associated with this role will evolve, but will fall within the boundaries of the general tasks outlined above. More specifically it will involve the maintenance of study records, assisting with the preparation of study data in databases, assisting with the review and editing of presentations, tracking study timelines, assisting with the creation and editing of research reports, assisting with the preparation of study meetings, and coordinating trainee tasks for research studies.
Ideal candidate will have good interpersonal communication skills, work ethic, and organizational skills; who enjoys interacting with collaborators within and outside of the institution, and is willing to learn new skills while on the job. This role also involves working alongside other research staff within the Department of Emergency Medicine.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
Collect and organize data from a variety of reference sources
Prepare charts, graphs, and tables according to accepted research practices
Perform preliminary analysis
Assist in investigating and gathering data
Route questionnaires, record information and distribute results using established procedures
Assist with recruiting and interviewing study participants
Provide appropriate documentation for research
Update manual and/or automated database file and maintain records
Assist in the preparation of materials for publication
Edit and/or type manuscripts according to accepted practices
Keep abreast of trends in field of study
Read professional journals and attend meetings and/or seminars
May supervise student assistants
Plan and assign work
May assist in lab maintenance.
Order supplies and equipment.
Monitor and maintain inventory control.
Minimum Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's degree. Some research experience is preferred. Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint is required. Experience with REDCap preferred but not required.
Additional Information This is a full-time position; 40 hours per week.
This is a term position. A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. Salary is dependent upon education and experience.
