The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine has initiated a nationwide search for an academic pediatric hospitalist to serve as the Division Chief of Pediatric Inpatient Medicine. The Division Chief will lead a large and well-established Division of academic pediatric hospitalist physicians in collaboration with Intermountain’s Primary Children’s Hospital (PCH), a free-standing tertiary care pediatric hospital in an integrated healthcare delivery system. The Division Chief will actively participate in the strategic planning processes of both the Department and PCH, and will be responsible for defining and executing the strategy to fulfill the Division’s clinical, research, education, and administration goals. This includes, but is not limited to, coordination and leadership of the overall academic agenda and health services, assuring the quality of the intellectual and clinical missions, and monitoring the fiscal health of the Division in coordination with the Department of Pediatrics’ Chair and the Associate Chair for Administration and Finance.
The division faculty attend for nearly all general pediatric admissions to PCH and for children with medical complexity on the inpatient units, in close collaboration with pediatric medical and surgical subspecialists. Additionally, Division faculty may contribute to hospitalist care at PCH affiliated programs in the southwest Salt Lake Valley, attending on the inpatient pediatric unit and special care nursery, and responding to newborn deliveries, emergency room consultations, rapid response and code team calls for pediatrics.
The Division Chief is a member of the Department of Pediatrics Executive Committee and contributes to discussions about Division and Departmental strategies, goals, policies and procedures involving the contracting, financial, and academic processes coordinated by the Department of Pediatrics’ Chair and Associate Chair for Administration and Finance
The successful candidate will be Board Certified in General Pediatrics or Pediatric Hospital Medicine. She/he will be an accomplished academician recognized in the field of pediatric inpatient medicine who demonstrates the ability to lead a large and complex pediatric division within a large department at a major public university and which operates within the children’s hospital of a large, integrated healthcare delivery system. The successful candidate must have direct experience managing hospitalized children with medical complexity with competency in standard inpatient procedures; and leadership experience with regards to team development, strategic planning, communication, and performance and talent management. The selected candidate must meet the requirements for appointment as Associate Professor or Professor on the Clinical or Tenure Track.
