The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Divisions of Neonatology and Pediatric Hospital Medicine (PHM) are pleased to announce our recruitment for Instructor vs Assistant Professor level board-certified/board-eligible pediatricians for the OHSU affiliated clinical care sites of Tuality Healthcare.
Tuality Healthcare is building a new hybrid neonatal and pediatric hospital acute care unit to include four level II NICU beds and four pediatric acute care beds. Tuality Healthcare delivers approximately 650 infants annually; this level II NICU will have the capacity to provide short-term invasive and non-invasive ventilation and continuous cardiopulmonary monitoring for premature (infants >32 week weighing > 1500gm ) as well as term infants requiring post-delivery stabilization. Tuality Healthcare has a strong history of primary care in the community; this acute care unit will allow expansion of services to care for hospitalized pediatric patients with low acuity conditions.
Tuality Healthcare is now an OHSU partner, indicating a formal partnership to support excellence in regional care. Daytime responsibilities include rounding on NICU and pediatric patients as well as attendance at higher risk deliveries. Nighttime responsibilities include on-call availability for acute issues of admitted patients or post-delivery stabilization exceeding routine care. Providers will also spend clinical time rotating through the OHSU NICU receiving onsite training in state of the art neonatal resuscitation and exposure to academic opportunities while caring for low acuity infants in the Doernbecher Neonatal Critical Care Unit. As an OHSU partner OHSU Neonatologists as well as OHSU Pediatric Hospitalists will be available 24/7 for consultation to help with medical stabilization and with transfer of care as needed to OHSU.
This exciting opportunity to provide care through the continuum of neonates through hospitalized children will qualify providers who are applying for board certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine within the “four-year” practice pathway. Applicants coming from another academic appointment or who have completed a fellowship will receive initial appointment of Assistant Professor; applicants from a non-academic background will receive Instructor appointment with expectation to advancement to Assistant Professor after successful completion of one year.
OHSU is committed to supporting this new and novel effort including additional training for applicants who feel they need strengthening of skills in either neonatal stabilization or acute care pediatric hospital care. These providers will be joining a team committed to excellence in pediatric care and benefit from dissemination of OHSU evidence based guidelines; ongoing participation in pediatric hospital medicine as well as neonatology based educational opportunities.
