Denver Health Medical Center is recruiting for a full time (1.0 FTE) Child Protection Team (CPT) Physician (Pediatrics or Family Medicine), with preference for a Child Abuse Pediatrician who is board certified/eligible in General Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics.
This Physician will join our a well-developed program for the assessment, treatment and follow-up care of children suspected to be victims of child maltreatment which will include emergency department, outpatient, and inpatient child abuse assessments in a multidisciplinary setting at Denver Health Hospital and the Denver Health Clinic at the Family Crisis Center (FCC), a City and County facility which serves as the hub for the evaluation of children for neglect, physical and sexual abuse in Denver. Our well developed, growing and integrated multidisciplinary team is comprised a Board Certified Child Abuse Pediatrician (Medical Director), a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, 3 RN’s (one is the Clinic/Program Manager), an LPN, an Administrative Assistant, a Child Life Specialist, a Health Coordinator and a Medical Assistant. This team medically evaluates children for abuse and neglect at the request of other medical providers, Denver Department of Human Services, and the Denver Police Department and provides the initial (safety) medical evaluation of all Denver County children being placed in out of home care for concerns of abuse and neglect. Additionally, the Family Crisis Center, which is operated by the Denver Department of Human Services, is a co-location facility that also houses the Denver Police Department’s Child Abuse Team. The medical team also evaluates children for sexual abuse at the medical clinic at the Denver Children’s Advocacy Center. There is close collaboration with the Connections for Kids Foster Care Clinic, located at one of Denver Health’s community health centers, which serves as the medical home for every child being placed in out of home care in the Denver metro area as well as a Health Team. Finally, this physician will work closely with the Denver County Attorney as well as the Denver District Attorney’s Office and serve as an expert witness in both county and criminal court cases.

A successful applicant would participate in a collaborative call schedule with our established team of medical colleagues (at the Kempe Center and Children’s Hospital Colorado) that covers nights and weekends. Commitment to excellence in education of students, residents, fellows and other multi-disciplinary trainees is an expectation including participation in the ACGME accredited Child Abuse Pediatrics Fellowship.
