The Director of Scientific Support Services is responsible for the oversight of all scientific support services throughout the Nemours enterprise. This position will be a key role in serving as a technical advisor and collaborator to physician scientists on molecular and genomic approaches to advance their work. Incumbent will possess significant scientific acumen and experience in order to advise investigators on scientific methods and in developing research protocols and translational studies. Responsibilities may also include: research cores, shared services, shared equipment, and shared lab space. The purpose of this position is to help provide scientific, strategic planning, management, and administrative support to research cores, shared services, scientific committees, regulatory requirements, Quality Assurance, scientific output, and other services as needed to ensure an optimal environment for genomic and translational research at Nemours Children’s Health System.
Provide technical oversight of all core labs.
Serve as the lead of the genomics laboratory and oversee the Ilumina sequencers and provide guidance to investigators on genomic and molecular approaches.
Provide guidance and scientific support to investigators in conduct of translational research.
Ensure quality and ensure adherence of core services to regulatory, biosafety, etc policies.
Facilitate interactions between Research Cores and the clinical studies team in application learnings from bench, pre-clinical and clinical data analysis for planning of subsequent clinical studies and translational research studies
Oversee the financial management of research cores in alignment with research administration
Create a collaborative environment where scientists from academia, government, industry, and NGOs come together to find solutions that improve children’s health through the use of scientific services at Nemours.
Masters Degree required; PhD preferred
MS required and experience operating in a core lab or scientific lab setting
Minimum of 5 years experience required
