The Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine of UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking Pediatric Hospitalists to join our vibrant team in July 2020. Clinical duties will include supervising trainees on our inpatient PHM teaching services, in-house precepting of new admissions and consults on teaching services during evening shifts, direct care of hospitalized patients on an attending-led limited-teaching service, and fielding transport calls from referring institutions. Over 50% of clinical time would be on daytime weekday shifts, while less than 50% would be on evenings, overnights, or weekends. There also will be a portion of protected time for educational, research, and/or administrative endeavors. The position carries with it a clinical appointment at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a faculty appointment in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. All candidates must be board-certified/board-eligible in Pediatrics. Ideal candidates for this position also will be board-certified in Pediatric Hospital Medicine or board-eligible for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine subspecialty board-certifying exam through either the practice pathway or fellowship pathway.
The Paul C. Gaffney Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine is one of the longest-standing PHM divisions in the country, with its origins in inpatient care dating back to the 1970s. It currently has 26 faculty members who manage greater than 9000 discharges and 22,000 patient days per year. A deep dedication to both excellent inpatient clinical care and outstanding medical education is the cornerstone of the division, which now looks to diversify its efforts to include more endeavors in the realm of discovery through clinical research, quality improvement, and implementation science.
