Mount Sinai West Hospital, an affiliate of Kravis Children’s Hospital at Mount Sinai, is seeking an experienced pediatrician to join the Division of Newborn Medicine as the Medical Director of the well newborn nurseries. The mission of the Division of Newborn Medicine is to provide nurturing, family-centered care following birth. We provide onsite attending physician coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to the more than 5,000 newborns delivered at our hospital. Our newborn division is comprised of seasoned attending pediatricians, with consultative services provided by neonatologists and pediatric medical subspecialists as needed. Our staff also includes more than 75 nurses who specialize in newborn care, a dedicated social worker and lactation consultants.
We are delighted to be adding a dedicated Medical Director to our newborn nursery staff. The Medical Director will oversee clinical and quality initiatives in the newborn nurseries, work closely with Mount Sinai voluntary faculty who attend in the newborn nurseries, and interface with local and state regulatory agencies on issues involving newborn care. The Medical Director will be supported in clinical care by general pediatricians and by the staff of the busy level III neonatal intensive care unit housed in the same building as the level I nurseries. Administrative responsibilities will include managing clinical personnel and coordination and communication with other services. Clinical responsibilities will include the provision of hospital care to well late preterm and term newborns; teaching residents, medical students, and staff; active involvement in newborn-related quality, safety, and administrative activities; and academic/scholarly activities.
Mount Sinai West is located in midtown Manhattan and is part of the Mount Sinai Health System, which includes 8 hospitals in the New York metropolitan area, as well as a large regional ambulatory footprint. Mount Sinai West is supported by the pediatric subspecialists of Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital.
Candidates must have an MD/DO degree and be BC/BE in Pediatrics with post-residency experience in inpatient newborn care. We are a seeking bright, independent physician who is committed to a career in pediatric newborn medicine. A variety of administrative and academic interests would be supported including translational research, biomedical and public health informatics, outcomes research, child advocacy, and quality improvement. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications. Faculty appointment is in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
