Imaging Research Spec II

As part of the Vanderbilt Institute of Imaging Science, the Imaging Research Specialist II, under moderate supervision, will run experiments and record results for functional MRI, electroencephalogram (EEG) and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) studies. Participate in the development and implementation of fMRI research studies, and contributes to research publication by conducting literature searches.

Department Specific: This position provides a variety of services to assist VUIIS faculty/staff/trainees in performing best-in-class scientific data analysis, imaging support, and translation of one-off methods to a greater user base. The position will focus on programming analysis tools for VUIIS and collaborator use.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Under moderate supervision, assist in the development of methods and procedures for research conducted with complex scientific Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), electroencephalogram (EEG) and near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) equipment; assist in the design functional MRI (fMRI), EEG and NIRS studies appropriately utilizing this equipment.
• Operation of wide variety of scientific experiments involving complex protocols and equipment
• Assist in protocol development. Conduct experimental design/analysis. Write imaging protocol and oversee its implementation.
• Informed Consent. Obtain informed consent from study subjects. Monitor IRB compliance throughout study and submit regulatory reports.
• Participate in the development and implementation of functional imaging research studies
• Design the study including procedures, protocols and quality control measures
• Design study or survey tool
• Develop data collection methods and/or databases
• Prepare educational tools for use with the study
• Abstract and interpret pertinent information from medical/technical literature
• Screen subjects for the study. Prepare subjects for being in the MRI equipment, and answer questions. Conduct study while subject in MRI.
• Analyze data acquired during the study.
• Contribute to research publications:
• Participate in reviewing and editing materials for publication
• Conduct literature and library searches and oversee data collection programs
• Develop reports of results, graphs, charts, tables, etc. of research findings
• Assist principal investigator in preparation of grant applications and contract proposals
• Assist in the training of faculty, postdoctoral fellows, and students in all aspects of fMRI research studies
• Assist in the training and supervise technical staff, medical and graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows
• Provide guidance and consultations to students, postdoctoral fellows and faculty as needed
• Assist in the training of others throughout VU (faculty, postdoctoral fellows, students) to utilize fMRI techniques in their research.

Department Specific:

• Produce image data analysis algorithms.
• Provide Training for VUIIS personnel and users in the use of institutional digital infrastructure and processes of reproducible scientific data analysis.
• Provide data analysis support.
• Assist in maintaining VUIIS digital infrastructure.
