The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP) and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois are conducting a national search to identify a new Division Head of Pediatric Neurology. These two institutions have placed a strategic imperative on this leadership recruitment and have conveyed a commitment to providing meaningful resources to expand the clinical services and support scholarly work. The Division Head (Chief) will report to the Head (Chair) of Pediatrics and be responsible for overall leadership of the division, overseeing strategic planning, recruitment and program development. Additionally, the Division Head will support the Department of Pediatrics and its academic, research and educational goals.
The University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois maintain a strong regional presence in central and downstate Illinois. The Division of Pediatric Neurology has seen an increase in the number of pediatric neurology and pediatric epilepsy referrals and a subsequent increase in both inpatient and outpatient clinical volumes. Each month, the Division receives approximately 200 patient referrals. Of those patient referrals, 70% - 80% are for epilepsy patients.
Incoming candidates will receive an academic appointment with the University of Illinois College of Medicine Peoria (UICOMP); rank will be commensurate with experience. The incoming Division Head will have the opportunity to mentor both medical students and residents. UICOMP’s educational programs include 244 medical students and 300 residents/fellows in 21 different post graduate programs. UICOMP is the educational sponsor of 13 ACGME-accredited residency programs (including Adult Neurology) and 7 ACGME-accredited fellowships in Peoria. The University Department of Pediatrics and OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, in collaboration with the Department of Neurology, have received approval to develop a pediatric neurology residency/fellowship.
The Department of Pediatrics is one of the largest departments at UICOMP. In collaboration with OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois, the Department has 19 divisions and over 145 faculty members providing general pediatrics and subspecialty services to the pediatric population of Central Illinois. OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois is a 136 bed, full-service children’s hospital that serves as the subspecialty regional referral center for central Illinois.

The ideal MD, MD/PhD, DO candidate will have successfully completed a Child Neurology Residency, be board certified in Neurology with special qualification in Child Neurology and should qualify for academic appointment as an associate or full professor. The new Head will have demonstrated leadership in an academic medical center and/or children’s hospital including faculty and trainee mentoring and program development.
