PCU MOSU is fast paced 24 private bed PCU/IMCU unit that takes care of a wide variety of adult and geriatric medical and surgical patients. Our unit is also certified and trained to take stable vented patients awaiting long term care placement. Many of our patients are monitored by a remote telemetry service, although we do utilize bedside monitoring as well. You will have ample opportunity to build a wide variety of skills on our unit, including but not limited to the management of insulin drips, heparin drips, and non titratable cardiac drips, wound care, enteral care, ostomy care, tracheostomy care, the management of multiple types of drains, and foley management and education. Our MOSU PCU team on 9NS, provides many opportunities for education, process/quality improvement, and inter-professional collaboration in a challenging, fast-paced, and team oriented environment. Surgical highlights: We see an even spread of surgical patients from the Gynecology/Oncology service, Urology service, and ENT service. Some of these patients are requiring surgical interventions for cancer, specifically for gynecology/oncology patients and ENT patients. Others are pursuing elective surgeries, such as patients requiring hysterectomies. We do not give oral or IV chemotherapy on our unit. We specialize in complex Continuous Bladder Irrigation, the care of fresh tracheostomies and laryngectomies, and post operative glucose control requiring insulin drips. Medical highlights: The other (roughly) 25% of our patients at this time are patients under Internal Medicine or Hospitalist service with a wide variety of medical conditions and comorbidities. These patients often have consulting services of departments such as Infectious Disease, Pulmonology, Vascular Surgery/Cardiology (not primary cardiology patients), and Gastroenterology. We specialize in the medical care of patients with DKA requiring insulin drips, sepsis, respiratory failure requiring intermittent or continuous bipap, and the care of patients with Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension requiring a specialized drug called Remodulin. POSITION SUMMARY 9. Interacts with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families and external contacts, such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers and agencies, concerning the health care of the patient. Interacts with other health care providers in numerous settings in order to report and ask for or clarify information. Also works with clergy to provide spiritual support. Synthesizes and prioritizes data from multiple sources to provide support for the human response of the patient and family to changes in health status.
