The Program in Public Health at Stony Brook University is seeking a qualified instructor for a non-tenure track faculty position who can offer innovative instruction for our graduate students (MPH, MHA, MS in Epidemiology and Clinical Outcomes Research, PhD students) in a way that leads to high student success in learning outcomes. The MPH program is primarily delivered in a traditional face-to-face modality with some hybrid and online courses depending on the concentration. Areas of specialization include community health, health policy and management (dually accredited by CEPH and CAHME), epidemiology and biostatistics, and a generalist option. The program has a strong focus on methodological skills, including biostatistics, epidemiology, and the social behavioral determinants of health.

The position is primarily teaching-focused, with some expectation of contributing to departmental and institutional service (87.5% teaching, 12.5% service). Responsibilities include teaching graduate public health program courses and mentoring MPH students in practicum proposal development (applied learning experiences). The teaching load, to include practicum mentoring, will be equivalent to 7 courses over each 12-month period. In addition to practicum mentoring, the expectation in year one is to teach two classes per semester, which may also be substituted, as needed, by summer or winter session courses. Teaching duties will include acting as faculty course director for practicum mentoring, which may count as up to three courses, depending on the size of an individual cohort. We are seeking candidates who are enthusiastic about teaching and have experience in implementing pedagogical strategies for a wide range of public health topics.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching public health courses at the graduate level; strong communication skills; evidence of successful collaboration with an instructional team; the ability to incorporate diversity, cultural competency, and/or social justice into teaching and service; and willingness to adhere to accreditation requirements for competency-based curricula and assessments. Continuing professional development participation is expected from the instructor: there will be opportunities to attend conferences, workshops, on-line tutorials, and to join professional development opportunities and/or membership in professional organizations.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications: Master's prepared in a health-related field. A demonstrated record or potential for excellence in teaching. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Experience working with diverse student populations.

Preferred Qualifications: MPH or doctoral degree (PhD or DrPH) in public health or health-science related fields. At least 2-years of experience teaching graduate public health courses. Commitment to contributing to the diversity, equity, inclusivity, and excellence of the Stony Brook community through teaching and service.
