The Department of Pediatrics at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks an accomplished physician educator to lead the Pediatric Residency Program at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons and New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia campus at an extraordinary time in the history of the Department.  Under the leadership of Jordan S. Orange MD Ph.D., Reuben S. Carpentier Chair of Pediatrics and the Physician-in-Chief of Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital of NewYork-Presbyterian, the Department is poised for growth in its clinical, educational, and research enterprises.  

Ranked best in the region by U.S. News & World Report, the Pediatric Residency Program at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children’s Hospital currently has 78 residents with tracks for physician-scientists and child neurology residents.  Pediatric training is inclusive of longitudinal primary pediatric care as well as the direct care and management of pediatric patients with acute and chronic, complex, and subspecialty issues. There is a strong legacy of community-based and advocacy practices that is built into the curriculum.  We are not only the major provider of primary care for the largely Latinx community of Washington Heights but also the major referral hospital for the greater New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut region.  

The Pediatric Residency Program Director (PD) will support and partner with all educational stakeholders to create a learning environment that promotes growth and development of our Pediatric Resident learners, ensure inclusive learning environments, and that anti-racist values are prioritized in all our training programs.  The primary responsibility of the PD will be to oversee the Columbia/NYP categorical Pediatric Residency Program. The PD will ensure all educational activities and educational initiatives are rooted in a learner-centric framework using the lens of adult learning theory and with a foundation of support. The PD role has 60 to 75% FTE allocated for administrative efforts towards leading the residency program. 

Position Qualifications:

• Board certification in Pediatrics and subspecialty, as appropriate
• Minimum of 3 years of experience within an educational program
• Consistently strong interpersonal skills 
• Track record of successful leadership in medical education 
• Documented success in creating, executing, and monitoring strategic plans to achieve established goals for a group of physician educators
• Demonstrated effectiveness in education program development, professional education, and medical education in an academic environment
