Princeton Day School has an immediate opening for a Director of Wellness Services to lead and guide all school-wide curricular and co-curricular initiatives touching upon student physical and emotional health. This full-time position, unique within the independent school community, highlights Princeton Day School’s commitment to preparing students to meet the rigorous demands of both its own program and those of the world in which they will be called upon to play a variety of leadership roles.
Responsibilities and Reports
The Director of Wellness Services will advise the Head of School and the leadership team on all matters pertaining to student physical and emotional well-being. Reporting to the Associate Head of School, they will be responsible for supervising daily operation of the health office and overseeing the clinical aspects of the athletics trainers office. They will direct the school’s health and wellness initiative and teach in that program. They will work with other departments and divisions of the school to implement a culture of wellness teaching, education and habits throughout the community. They will design and implement professional development opportunities for members of the faculty and staff, as well as educational programming for parents during the academic year. They will work closely with the Director of Student Services and their staff to execute developmentally appropriate programming in all 3 divisions of the school pertaining to physical, mental, social and emotional topics. They will be responsible for providing guidance, support and programs of division specific issues, challenges and opportunities for health and wellness education, working in coordination with faculty, deans, the Director of Student Life and the Division Heads of School.
Qualifications
The Director of Wellness Services should hold a medical degree from an accredited university program and should have clinical experience – preferably in pediatrics – for no fewer than five years. They will have demonstrated an understanding and appreciation of childhood, pre-adolescent, and adolescent development; an enthusiasm for working with parents and faculty; and a strong desire to lead a critical endeavor within a PreK-12 community. They should have experience working with others, collaborating in projects and executing programs.
This is a full-time, 10-month position. Compensation and benefits (including tuition remission) are competitive.
