University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Gastroenterologist. Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest. Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered. The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatrics and Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pancreatology and Nutrition to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as a gastroenterologist.
The Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, Pancreatology, and Nutrition is the state’s only tertiary academic care program committed to providing the highest available level of care to children with disorders of the digestive system, liver, and pancreas. The Clinical services include several multidisciplinary care services including Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders Clinic, Pediatric Feeding Clinic, Fontan Clinic, IBD clinic, Aerodigestive and Tracheostomy Clinic among others. The division has National Pancreas Foundation approved Pancreas Center of Excellence designation, held only by a few pediatric hospitals in the country. The fellowship program has been continuously ACGME accredited for >25 years and graduates 1 fellow per year. The division also has a well-establish basic and clinical research programs including NIH funded funded INSPPIRE (International Study Group of Pediatric Pancreatitis: In search for a cuRE) study, the first ever multicenter, multidisciplinary collaboration to examine pancreatitis in children. The division currently has nine physicians (soon to be 10), three fellow physicians, two nurse practitioners, four specialty nurses, as well as registered dieticians, social works, speech pathologists and case workers who actively participate in patient care through a team approach. The division has a strong collaboration with Pediatric Surgery, Pediatric Radiology, Pediatric Urology, Pediatric Anesthesia and a variety of other ancillary services.
Requirements:
Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible Pediatric Gastroenterology or equivalent
License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa
Desirable qualifications:
Expertise in pediatric gastroenterology
Experience in patient-oriented research
Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents
Evidence of scholarly activity
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated experience working effectively in a welcoming and respectful workplace environment

The Children’s Hospital has dedicated procedure rooms for endoscopy supported by pediatric anesthesia teams and a brand new clinic for pediatric specialty care. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians.
