Description

Nemours is seeking a part-time, 22 hours per week (Sunday and weekday hours) Language Interpreter! This position will be responsible for providing translation and interpreter services for inpatients and outpatients as well as writing, analyzing, and editing written material. As a Language Interpreter, the position serves as a member of a team that adapts and maintains service requests based upon ever changing needs of patients and their families, enhancing communication between clinical providers and patients/families with Limited-English Proficient (LEP). Language interpreters also work to increase clinician and patient experience as medical care is delivered while improving health outcomes and reducing safety and legal risks.

Responsibilities:

1. Develops, implements, evaluates, and modifies practices related to interpreting services to meet individual patient and family needs.
2. Provide Spanish interpretation for patients and hospital staff as needed by translating medical documents and brochures, pamphlets, and patient instructions into targeted language, and should have a good understanding of medical terminology and cultural awareness.
3. Work with other disciplines to promote best practices related to language services, including but not limited to how to work with an interpreter, cultural competency, etc.
4. Help families understand medical terminology and process to ensure compliance with care specially designed for children and to support patient and family satisfaction.
5. Identify barriers to effective communication throughout the hospital for customers whose primary language is not English. Must have familiarity with relevant ethical and cultural factors and skills in interpretation.
6. Assist in the process of early identification of patients who will need interpreter services and, when needed, advocate for their communication needs.
7. Participate in departmental initiatives Continuous Quality Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services.
8. Run daily EPIC reports for outpatient interpreter scheduling needs.
9. Maintain workload of interpreter and translation tasks that directly impact patients and families.
10. Prioritize workload to address the most critical needs for live interpretation during the shift.
11. Participate in training volunteers and bilingual cross-trained Associates when asked.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma required
• Six months or more experience in interpretation in a healthcare setting required
• Pass language proficiency test at Advanced or Superior level, completion of certificate for Bridging the Gap program required ; Fluency in English and Spanish (advanced high level) required
• National Board Certification for Medical Interpreters preferred
