St. Louis Children’s Hospital and WashU Medicine, in partnership with CoxHealth in Springfield, Missouri are seeking a Pediatrician-in-Chief to oversee hospital services at the Springfield, Missouri location. Through this partnership, more advanced care will be provided to the children and families in Springfield and the surrounding region. Pediatric care will be significantly expanded by creating a new pediatric hospital within the walls of CoxHealth and the construction of a comprehensive outpatient center that will include ambulatory surgery, pediatric specialty care clinics, imaging, laboratory services, and infusion.
Currently, inpatient pediatric care includes a six-bed PICU covered by pediatric critical care intensivists, a 33-bed Level III NICU, staffed 24/7 by Neonatologists, and a 26-bed general pediatrics floor covered by pediatric hospitalists. Pediatric specialty care includes cardiology, endocrinology, GI, general surgery, anesthesia, hematology oncology, orthopedic surgery, ENT, sleep medicine, and urology, ophthalmology, and plastic surgery.
This unique, senior leadership role will initially focus on inpatient clinical services, with responsibility for directing the transition to a strategic ‘hospital-within-a-hospital’ model.
Key initiatives will include the integration of inpatient pediatric beds, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) to support innovative practice models with St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH). Future responsibilities will include clinical leadership of the ambulatory and outpatient clinic expansion and services provided.
Core elements of the role will include clinical leadership, operational management and oversight, and experience optimizing resources to innovate healthcare delivery. The ability to collaborate well with all levels of leadership and across service lines is key. The top candidate will be comfortable with all aspects of strategic planning, clinical staffing, patient satisfaction, and community engagement.
The Pediatrician in Chief will facilitate growth and expansion of the SLCH, WashU Medicine, and CoxHealth model while preserving the local culture. This role will lead the charge for this collaborative model to become the leading regional pediatric healthcare provider and will require expertise in implementing and directing a patient-centric, service line coordinated strategy.
