Job Description
We seek an outstanding Pediatrician to join our BMT program. We are expanding our Inpatient Physician Hospitalist Program to care for our complex pediatric blood and marrow transplant (BMT), gene therapy, and CAR –T patients. The shifts are mostly nights; however, daytime shifts are also available.
Roles and Responsibilities Include:
Provides primary care for BMT inpatients:
Daily inpatient rounding.
Assess patient’s status repeatedly as clinically indicated, including transfer to ICU if necessary
Orders and reviews labs and other diagnostic studies and procedures.
Preform bone marrow aspirates, biopsies, lumbar punctures, skin biopsies and assist in bone marrow harvests.
Review all labs and imaging results, manage fluid and electrolytes, and treat appropriately. This may include the start of antibiotics or other critical therapies, on floor or in the ICU, in consultation with the ICU medical staff
Seek consultation of ICU or surgical services, as well as consultation of other subspecialists as indicated.
Communicates results to patients in a timely manner.
Provides appropriate and timely documentation in EMR, including discharge summaries and admission h&p and orders.
Management of CRS and CRES in patients who receive CAR-T therapy or other cellular therapy products.
Serves as a clinical expert and resource for the education of peers and other health professionals.
Works collaboratively with the attending physician, consulting physician(s), and other disciplines to identify, develop, and implement an appropriate plan of care that maximizes individual patient/family preference and enhances quality, access, and cost-effective outcomes.
Formulates the plan of care with the patient and family, based on expected goals of care and length of stay.
Serve as a team player and allow for some flexibility within the role.
Our BMT program is FACT-accredited, has a state-of-the-art inpatient and outpatient unit, and functions independently with its own advanced practice practitioners and clinical research professionals. We have a major emphasis on clinical research, with open protocols from the CTN, COG, and PBMTC. We provide transplant across many disease indications and offer cell therapy, CAR-T and gene therapy. We are one of the largest sickle-cell BMT programs in the country.
Requirements
BC/BE in Pediatrics, able to get DC license.
Experience with high acuity pediatric patients
Skilled collaborating with a team and communicating with nursing staff and patients
Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, creative problem solving and excellent critical thinking and leadership; previously demonstrated ability to facilitate group processes and work cohesively and collaboratively as member of the interdisciplinary team.
