Description
Nemours is seeking an Otolaryngology Specialty Nurse to join our Nemours Childrens Health team in Wilmington, DE.The Otolaryngology Specialty Nurse is responsible for a defined area of specialized nursing practice. Key responsibilities include phone triage, addressing scheduling inquiries, coordinating insurance authorizations, preparing correspondence, communicating imaging results in collaboration with providers, and responding to Nemours portal messages.
Responsibilities also include supporting physicians and advanced practice providers with programmatic initiatives across multiple subspecialties within Pediatric Otolaryngology. The role may involve participation in patient, family, and provider education related to common otolaryngologic conditions and procedures.
The Specialty Nurse utilizes the nursing process to deliver and evaluate patient care. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal and time management skills, a proactive approach to their work, and a commitment to building expertise in Otolaryngology.
Essential Functions
1. Practices collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers to provide high quality health care to children.
2. Performs appropriate assessment of patient/family upon referral/admission and appropriately documents data.
3. Performs ongoing assessment and evaluation of patient progress and revision of interdisciplinary plan of care.
4. Collaborates interprofessionally as needed. Identifies patient/family need for further resources and initiates appropriate referrals.
5. Documents patient care and progress on patient's chart.
6. Provides patient/family teaching based on identification of learning needs.
7. Acts as a patient's advocate.
8. Acts as a role model to other members of the Patient Care Services Department to foster professional development.
9. Acts as a liaison between families and members of the health care team.
10. Promotes standards of care for the specialty area.
11. Identifies educational needs of nursing staff regarding the care of patients in the specialty area. Serves as an educational resource for unit and the Organization.
12. Collaborates with nursing management in the monitoring and evaluation of the quality and appropriateness of patient care within the specialty area.
13. Fosters a spirit of inquiry and participates in research endeavors.
14. Disseminates research findings and incorporates these findings into nursing practices for patient care within the specialty area.
15. Serves as a consultant within specialty area for colleagues both intra and extra departmentally and in the community.
16. Maintains a current knowledge base through participation in appropriate professional activities and organizations.
17. Assesses own strengths and weaknesses, identifies resources for professional growth and utilizes these resources to promote professional growth.
18. Demonstrates effective communication skills with health care team and patient, family, and members of the health care team.
19. Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the Nemours Foundation.
20. Demonstrates proficiency in the care of all age groups: neonates, infants, toddlers, school aged, adolescents and adults.
Requirements
BSN
Minimum of 2 years experience as a pediatric RN required
