Description
Nemours is seeking an Ultrasound Technologist to join our team in Pensacola, FL.The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for working knowledge, operation and maintenance of all ultrasounds related equipment, performance of ultrasound studies to demonstrate various organs of the body and recording these images in the standard formats for diagnosis by a physician. The Ultrasound Technologist must be ARDMS registered or registry eligible with completion of registry within one year of employment date. The Ultrasound technologist is responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assurance and improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations, and implementing actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of Nemours. The Ultrasound Technologist is essential personnel for the hospital; therefore, technologists will make every attempt possible to report for work in the event of inclement weather.
Essential Functions:
- Will be responsible for performing ultrasounds in the setting of outpatient, inpatient, ER, OR, hospital and satellite outpatient clinics. Will perform portable ultrasound exams on an as-needed basis.
- Provides accurate room preparation and instructions to patient/family according to the procedure and physically prepares the patient for examination which includes explaining the imaging procedure, answers pertinent procedural questions and following Nemours Standards of Behavior.
- Knowledge of Ultrasound Imaging protocols and providing accurate preparation instructions to patient/family with the ability to answer pertinent procedural questions.
- Responsible for patient identification, proper identification of all images, PACS interaction and documentation. Operates hospital computer system for patient data entry and retrieval.
- Responsible for the preparation, administration, and documentation of contrast media per departmental protocols under the direct supervision of a radiologist/physician. Observes patient for allergic reaction after administration of contrast.
- Responsible for screening of patients to be imaged for contraindications that may be hazardous to their health or to the safety of others.
- Ensure proper function of equipment by proper usage and maintenance. Report on unsafe conditions and incidents.
- Responsible for the high- and low-level disinfection of probes according to hospital policies.
- Must have the ability to work well with others and act as a team member. Ability to work independently and engage in critical thinking to improve the quality of care.
- Good communication skills are required. In addition to accepting feedback, asking questions and active communication with counterparts and all departments.
- Aids in the training of new personnel, students, and physicians.
- In-person employment with regular attendance is required. This position is considered essential for purposes of staffing during severe weather emergencies and other natural disasters.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule, on an on-call basis and must have reliable transportation.
- Responsible for operation and care of all other Ultrasound and patient care equipment as needed.
- Communicate scheduling delays to patients, staff, and families.
- Inventory, stock supplies and cleanliness of designated work areas.
- Ensure all emergency equipment and supplies are available and operational. Familiar with proper procedure with downtime and for equipment failure.
- Knowledge of sedation and contrast procedures.
- Answering phones and coordinating patients as needed.
- Additional miscellaneous duties and responsibilities, as may be assigned from time to time by the employees supervisor.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma required
- ARDMS registered or eligible (must complete registration within 1 year of hire)
- HLD (high-level disinfection) Nanosonics Trophon certificate within 90 days of hire
- BLS Certification from AHA required upon hire
